The roles
Working in the poultry industry involves a variety of tasks and responsibilities, and work is done in all types of weather. Some of the roles include:
- Poultry attendants – Responsible for the daily care and maintenance of poultry, poultry attendant tasks include feeding, watering, monitoring bird health, cleaning enclosures and ensuring a clean and safe environment for the birds.
- Egg collectors – As well as collecting eggs from hens, inspecting them for quality and properly storing them, this role involves maintaining cleanliness in egg collection areas and ensuring eggs are handled carefully to prevent damage.
- Relocation staff – Assisting in the safe and humane relocation of poultry between different areas of the farm or to different facilities, this role requires attention to detail and care to minimise stress and injury to the birds during transport.
- Vaccination staff – Responsible for administering vaccines to poultry to ensure health and prevent disease outbreaks, this role requires precision, adherence to health and safety protocols and a keen eye for detail to ensure proper procedures are followed.
